DECO Lifecycle

The DECO lifecycle governs the change process for a development part release.

The following are general role access statements:

  • Team Design Engineer (and inherited roles VPLMCreator or VPLMProjectLeader) role can edit the project context DECO in all states prior to Release.
  • Only the owner in the respective state can promote or demote the DECO.

The DECO lifecycle includes these states:

Create

A DECO can be created by a user with the VPLMCreator or VPLMProjectLeader role. If Engineering Central is installed, a user with the Design Engineer role can also create a DECO. The creator must specify a distribution list.

The DECO owner can then edit the DECO details to change attribute values.

All VPM users of the current project context with roles VPLMCreator or VPLMProjectLeader can add development parts as ECO affected items with the Requested Change value "For Release."

The current owner can promote the DECO to the next state (Design Work).

Design Work

The creator is the owner of the DECO. VPM users of the current project context with roles VPLMCreator or VPLMProjectLeader can edit DECO details and add/remove development parts as affected items that have a Requested Change value “For Release.”

All affected items must be in the Approved state.

Review

In the Review state, users cannot add/remove affected items but can edit the DECO details. The owner verifies all changes on affected items, and checks that disposition codes are correct and that the DECO is ready to be released.

Release

When the DECO is promoted to Release, all distribution list members are notified. In the Release state, no changes can be made to the DECO or to its affected items. All affected items will also be in the Release state.

Cancelled

In any state prior to Release, the DECO can be cancelled by its owner. This halts the DECO’s lifecycle and ends the change management process for its affected items.

When a DECO is cancelled, all affected items connected to the DECO are disconnected and the DECO is promoted to the Cancelled state.
