Capturing Usage

When Library Central or the Semiconductor Accelerator for IP Management is installed, the Enter Usage Information page lets you describe how you will use a file that you want to download. Whenever a file in your download requires usage information, the page is shown when you click the download or checkout icon before the file is delivered to the desktop.

Usage information is gathered once per document per user, if the system level setting in emxComponents.properties file is set to capture usage data.

Not all files require usage information. The Enter Usage Information page does not appear when you download a file:


  • That does not require usage information (any document other than a reference document, or a specification not connected to a classified part).
  • You have already downloaded and entered usage information for that file (if working through hierarchy).

If any file in a multiple-deliverable download requires usage information, the Enter Usage Information page appears before you can download.


Before you begin: View the list of specifications or reference documents that contain the file you want to download.
  1. Click (download) or (checkout), or (view) for the document or file.

  2. In the main part of the Enter Usage Information page, enter the following information:

    Purpose. Enter a brief summary of how you will use the file.

    State of Usage. From the drop-down list, select one of the following:


    • Downloaded. The deliverable has been downloaded.
    • Integrating. The deliverable is being integrated into a design.
    • Succeeded. The integration was successful.
    • Failed. The integration was not successful.
