Feature Option Table Views

This section provides details on each of the views available from the feature option table.

Feature Option Table – Status View

The left side of the Status table contains a tree that shows the context/selected object (either a product or a feature) as the highest level object with the next level of objects below. In this view, only feature names are displayed with the exception of the top level object. Each of the feature trees can be expanded to any level except where a product is added as a feature. In such a case, the Create / Add Existing commands are not allowed under the product added as a feature. Also the feature names (this would be a combination of name and revision as in the Structure Navigator) are linked to open the standard Properties page.

The right side of the table shows the status information about the features. It contains the following columns:

Lifecycle Status icon. Shows an icon depending on the lifecycle state of the object:

  • = Peliminary
  • = Product Management, Design Engineering, Review
  • = Release
  • = Obsolete

Active EC. Shows if the object on the list has a related engineering change that is not in the Complete, Rejected or Closed state. For details about engineering changes, see Working with Engineering Changes.

Higher Revision. Shows if a higher revision of the object exists.

Type. Shows the type of object.

Description. Shows details about the object. This can be edited within the cell in Edit mode.

Owner. Person who is currently assigned responsibility for the product. This can be edited within the cell in Edit mode.

State. Current state of the object in its lifecycle.

Feature Option Table - Selection View

The left side of the Selection table contains a tree that shows the context/selected object (either a product or a feature) as the highest level object with the next level of objects below. In this view only feature names are displayed (other than the top level object). Each of the feature trees can be expanded to any level except where a product is added as a feature. In such a case, the Create / Add Existing commands should not be allowed under the product added as feature. Also the feature names (this would be a combination of name and revision as that in the Structure Navigator.) are hyper-linked to open the Properties page of the object.

The right side of the table shows the "selection" information about the features. The following describes the various columns of the table.

Type. Shows the type of object.

Sequence Number. The sequence the subfeatures will be shown during product configuration.

Note: Sequence Number is a mandatory column and must not be removed when creating a custom table view.

Feature Type. Shows the feature type as either configuration, logical, manufacturing or none.

Min Qty. Shows the minimum quantity of the object.

Max Qty. Shows the maximum quantity of the object.

Default Selection. Shows the default selection of the object (Yes/No).

Feature Selection. Shows the selection option of the object such as "May select only one", "Must select one or more" etc.

Rule Type. Shows the rule associated with the object (Inclusion Exclusion). Clicking a link in this column will open the Inclusion Rule form.

Expression. Shows the Rule Expression. On the mouse over event the entire expression will be displayed as tool tip.

The following validation checks are performed on fields like Sequence Number, Minimum Quantity and Maximum Quantity:

  • Sequence Number must be a positive integer (num>0).
  • Sequence Number must be unique number, that is, no duplicates are allowed.
  • Minimum Quantity must be positive integer.
  • Maximum Quantity must be positive integer
  • Minimum Quantity must be less than Maximum Quantity.

At most, only one subfeature can have an active default selection (value of "Yes").

If there are no objects in the structure breakdown then only the root node is shown in the view. However the commands to perform Create / Add Existing are still functional, thus allowing additions under the root node.

Similarly, when there are objects in structure breakdown, and if any object is selected, then the new object being created or already existing object is added under the context of the selected one. Otherwise, if no object is selected, then new objects are added under the root node.

Feature Option Table – Rules View

The left side of the Rules table contains a tree that shows the context/selected object, either a product or a feature, as the highest level object with the next level of objects below. In this view only feature names are displayed other than the top level object. Each of the feature trees can be expanded to any level except where a product is added as a feature. In such case, the Create / Add Existing commands are not allowed under the product added as feature. While expanding each feature/product, all rule objects (Inclusion Rule, Compatibility Rule, Rule Extension, Resource Rule) are also shown in addition to the features/products. Also all objects (this would be a combination of name and revision as in the Structure Navigator) in the left side of the table are linked to open the Properties page of the object.

The right side of the table shows the rules information for the features. The following columns are included:

Rule Type. Shows the inclusion or exclusion rule associated with the feature. Click any link in this column to edit the rule.

Rule Expression. Shows the expression of the rule associated with the feature. On mouse over, the entire expression is shown as a tool tip. You can click the link in the Rule Type column to edit this expression.

Name. Shows the name of the compatibility rule.

Left Expression. Shows the compatibility rule left expression. On mouse over, the entire expression is shown as tool tip.

Compatibility. Shows the compatibility rule operator. On mouse over, the entire expression is shown as tool tip.

Right Expression. Shows the compatibility rule right expression. On mouse over, the entire expression is shown as tool tip.

Name. This column is hyper-linked. Click the name to show the resource usage.

Initial. Shows the initial resource usage.

Min. Shows the minimum the resource usage.

Max. Shows the maximum the resource usage.

Name. Shows the name of the extension rule.

Program. Shows the program name associated with the extension rule.

Arguments. Shows the arguments to the program.

Feature Option Table – GBOM View

The left side (tree) of the GBOM table displays the context or selected object (either a product or a feature) as the highest level object, with the next level of objects below. In this view, only feature names are displayed (other than the top level object). Each of the feature trees can be expanded to any level except where a product is added as a feature. In such a case, the Create / Add Existing commands are not allowed under the product added as feature. While expanding, all feature/product GBOM objects are also shown in addition to the features/products. Also all objects in the left side of the table are linked to open the Properties page of the object.

It contains the following columns:

Type. The type or subtype.

Description. Details about the item. This can be edited within the cell.

State. The current state of the item in its lifecycle.

F/N. The Find Number is an id that is used on drawings as "bubble" callouts. Find Numbers are usually integer values: 1,2,3,...

Quantity. The quantity of the item in the product or feature. This can be edited within the cell.

Component Location. Similar to Reference Designator, but is used to give additional location information and/or can be used by industries other than electronics. For example, it can be used to indicate which motor is failing all the time, the one by the window or the one by the furnace. This column can be edited within the cell.

Reference Designator. The Reference Designator ID is used on Printed Circuit Cards to indicate the location an electronic component is to be inserted. Reference Designators are usually values like R1, R2, R7 or C1, C5 (R for resistor and C for capacitor).

Usage. Standard, Reference, Per Sales Order, or As Required. Quantity rules are only evaluated for features with the usage value As Required.

Rule Type. Either exclusion or inclusion. Click any link in this column to edit the rule.

Rule Expression. Shows the expression that defines the rule. On mouse over, the entire expression is shown as a tool tip. You can click the link in the Rule Type column to edit this expression.
