Installing and Setting Up Batch Printing and PDF Rendering

The ENOVIA products support AdLib version 4. Make sure to use a registered copy of AdLib, and not a demo copy. PDF rendering is only supported for Generic Document objects added to a document family. The PDF rendering supports Microsoft formats such as Doc, XLS, PPT, VSD, plus many image formats such as JPEG, GIF, and BMP. Refer to the AdLib website for a complete list of supported formats.

You also need to define properties that control how batch printing and PDF rendering work. See emxBatchPrintPDF.properties.

  1. Install AdLib eXpress (AdLib can be installed only on a Windows NT or Win 2000 computer).

  2. Restart your computer.

  3. After the computer starts up, start AdLib eXpress.

  4. After you start AdLib, it will create queue directories.

  5. Make sure the queue directories in emxBatchPrintPDF.properties is properly set to point at those directories. The properties file is in the same directory as other properties files like emxSystem.properties.

  6. Choose Tools > Adlib eXpress Server Options. Choose the folders you want, instead of using the ones AdLib automatically creates. If you change the directories, be sure to change the settings in emxBatchPrintPDF.properties (see emxBatchPrintPDF.properties).

  7. Click the Processing tab and check the following boxes:

    • Enable DPI File Processing?
    • Cancel Processing of DPI File on Conversion Error
    • Cancel Processing of DPI File on Missing File Error

  8. Restart your Application Server and RMI.

You can use mounted network directories, but you must ensure that all OS users involved (the OS user for RMI, the OS user for ENOVIA platform kernel, and the OS user for the Application Server) have read and write access to the network mount; otherwise, PDF rendering and batch printing could error on file write errors.
