Marking WBS Tasks as Deleted

When you mark tasks as deleted, the tasks are no longer included in the project's WBS (its % Complete value, duration or due dates no longer factor into the project) but project members can still look at the task and its components. This is useful for traceability and to ensure information is not lost.

Tasks in any state can be marked for deletion. When a task is marked for deletion, its assignees are removed and they are sent notification. Although people can still view the task, it cannot be edited. If you undo the mark as deleted, the tasks assignees are not connected to the task again.

Do not mark a task for deletion that has subtasks. First either delete or mark for deletion the subtasks and then delete the task. If a subtask is marked as deleted and then the parent task enters the Complete state, an error will display not allowing the deletion since the parent is in a Complete state. When mark as deleted is done on a task having subtasks, the subtasks are not seen in the WBS Deleted tasks view.

A mandatory task created from a project template cannot be marked as deleted. Nor can you mark a task as deleted if it is in Complete state.

Before you begin: View the WBS page that includes the tasks. See About Tasks.
  1. From the Actions menu or page toolbar, click Mark as Deleted.

A message asks if you want to mark the tasks as deleted.

Tasks flagged as Mandatory cannot be marked for deletion or deleted from the WBS.

  2. Click OK.

The Mark as Deleted page opens.

  3. Enter your Comments. All selected tasks marked as deleted will have the same reason for deletion.

  4. Click Done.
