About Sub or Derived Requirements

A sub requirement elaborates on some aspect of the original requirement. It does not provide any new information, just a clarification of the original information. A derived requirement does provide new information.

The status attributes for sub and derived requirements is either Valid, Suspect, or Invalid.


  • Valid means that this sub or derived requirement adheres to all rules.
  • Suspect means that this sub or derived requirement needs additional work.
  • Invalid indicates that this sub or derived requirement is invalid and cannot be used.

Sub or derived requirements exist in context of another requirement or specification.
