Creating a New Requirement

Users assigned the role of Requirement Manager can create a requirement. You can create it as either a stand-alone requirement or as a requirement in the context of another object like a product or a feature. This requirement is considered the primary requirement. You can use this requirement to create sub requirements.


Before you begin:

View the list of requirements. See Listing Requirements.

  1. From the page Actions menu or toolbar, select Create New.

    Or

    From the global toolbar, select Actions > Requirements > Create Requirement.

    The Create New Requirement page opens.



  2. Enter these details for the new requirement:

    Type. Click to select a requirement type or subtype.

    Name. A name, short descriptive string, or check AutoName. As you type, if a matching name appears in a drop-down list, you can click to select it.

    Vault. Click to select a vault. The vault is where the object will be stored in the database.

    Policy. From the drop-down list, select Requirement.

    Revision. The revision number or code.

    Title. A descriptive identifier for the requirement.

    Description. The description of the new requirement.

    Owner. If you are not the owner, click to select another owner.

    Design Responsibility. Click to find and assign design responsibility using Company or Projects data.

    Priority. From the drop-down list, select: Pre-assigned, Medium, Low, High, Urgent.

    Difficulty. The estimated level of difficulty implementing this requirement. From the drop-down list, select High, Medium, or Low.

    Sponsoring Customer. Click to select the customer sponsoring this requirement.

    Requirement Classification. From the drop-down list, select None, Functional, Non-Functional, or Constraint.

    Estimated Cost. The estimated cost to implement this requirement. The field to the right specifies the currency of the cost.

    Requirement Category. The requirement category.

    Synopsis. A summary of the requirement.

    Notes. Any notes that may help others reviewing this requirement.

  3. Click Create and close if you are creating only one requirement. To create another requirement after this one, click Create.
