Adding Existing Objects: Structure & Content Editor

You can add existing Chapters, Comments, and Requirements at any level in the specification hierarchy. Select a location from the navigation tree and choose Add Existing from the Actions menu to begin a search of the existing Chapter, Comment, or Requirement. The actual placement of the new object may vary from the selected location due to the rules governing object placement. In addition, a specification reserved by another user has inherent editing restrictions that will prevent you from adding existing objects.

You cannot add existing objects if the specification is reserved by another user. Use the View filter's Status option to show any restrictions. See View and Display Options: Structure & Content Editor.

  1. From navigation tree, check an object.

    The selected object establishes the object's insertion point.

  2. Select Actions > Add Existing > Chapter, Comment, or Requirement.

    A search or find page opens for the selected object.

  3. Complete the search options, and click Search.

  4. From the listed results, check each object you want to add, and then click Select.

    The selected objects are added to the specification.

    If you add an object to a filtered view, it appears in the view regardless of whether it meets the filter criteria or not. Refresh the page to reapply the filters.
