Saving Designs to ENOVIA

You can save new or modified designs to ENOVIA database that is active in the current session using the Active option, or all new or modified designs that is in session using the All option.

The following conditions determine when a design is considered modified and whether the designs will be selected by default in the ENOVIA Save dialog box:

  • Locked by Self: Designs are preselected by default.
  • Unlocked: Designs are preselected by default.
  • Change in Type: Designs are preselected by default.
User preference settings control the behavior of the Save feature.For more details on setting up preferences, see "Setting Preferences" section in ENOVIA Collaborative Design for AutoCAD Installation and Administrator's Guide.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Ensure that the designs you want to save to ENOVIA is open in AutoCAD.

Limitations in ENOVIA Save

  1. Click ENOVIA > Save > Active or All from the AutoCAD toolbar.


    • Active: Click to save new or modified designs that are active in the current session of AutoCAD.
    • All: Click to save all new or modified designs which are loaded in AutoCAD.
    The ENOVIA Save dialog box opens.
    Warning: An error message is displayed and ENOVIA Save dialog box does not open if there are no changes to be saved in the designs open in AutoCAD.


    All the designs open in AutoCAD that are new or modified are listed in the ENOVIA Save dialog box. For each design, the ENOVIA Save dialog box lists,

    Column Description
    Check box A selection check box is available for the designs displayed in the ENOVIA Save dialog box. Select the check box corresponding to the required designs to select the designs for save. Designs corresponding to unselected check boxes are not considered for save.

    Note: The checkboxes are preselected for the modified (including Locked by self, un-locked, type-changed) and new designs.
    Alerts An alert is displayed for the designs corresponding to the check boxes that cannot be selected for save. For example, is displayed for designs that is locked by another user, in Release state, or obsolete. The check boxes corresponding to are grayed out and cannot be selected. Point to to view the tool tip. The tool tip displays the reason why the design cannot be selected for save.
    Displays the lock status of the design in ENOVIA. icon is displayed if the design is locked by you or any other user. icon is displayed if the design is not locked in ENOVIA. For a new design, no icon is displayed.
    Name Name of the design.
    This icon is displayed for designs that are saved to ENOVIA Workspace. Roll-over mouse to view the name of the workspace where the design is saved. For a new design, this is blank.
    Type Type of the design.
    Rev Current revision of the sequence. This is blank for a new design.
    Status Status of the design in ENOVIA. One of the following is displayed for each design:
    • New. Displayed if the design does not exist in ENOVIA.
    • Modified. Displayed if the design is modified in AutoCAD since the design was last saved or opened.
    • Obsolete. Displayed if newer version of the design exists in ENOVIA database.
    State Current maturity level of the design in ENOVIA lifecycle. This is blank for a new design.
    Locked By If the AutoCAD design being saved already exists in ENOVIA, and is locked by any user, then this column indicates the name of this user. In the case of saving a new design, this is set to default value ‘--’.
    Description Description entered for the design by the user.
    CAD Attributes This column is displayed only if Show CAD Attributes check box is selected. See View Attributes of a Design.

  2. You can enter the following details for saving the design.

    Option Action
    Click to select all the new and modified designs from the listed designs.
    Save To The ENOVIA workspace where the designs will be saved. For selecting a workspace, see Select a Workspace to Save Designs.
    Comments Enter comments for design you are saving. The comments are stored as an attribute in the design in ENOVIA.
    View Click and select a table defined by the Integration Administrator from the drop down list. The selected table is applied to the ENOVIA Save dialog box.

  3. Click Options to open the ENOVIA Save options dialog box. For details on setting the ENOVIA Save options, see Set Save Options.

  4. You can multi-select rows using mouse-click along with combination of "Ctrl" or "Shift" keys. Right-click the selected designs and select:

    Option Action
    Autoname Click to assign a name automatically to the selected designs. The naming is done for the selected designs as per the autoname series set for each type in the Save Options dialog box. See Use Autoname.
    Revise Click to apply the target revision specified in the Save Options to all the selected designs. The revision number or sequence is displayed under the Target Revision column. For new designs, the first revision in the revision sequence is applied as the revision by default. For example, Rev A. See Revise Designs for more details.
    Undo Revise Click to revert the target revision added using the Revise option. This option is available only for nodes that were set the target revision using the revise option.
    Include for Save Click to include the designs corresponding to the selected rows for saving to ENOVIA. The checkboxes of the selected rows is selected.

    Note: Rows with alert icons cannot be included for saving to ENOVIA.
    Exclude from Save Click to exclude the designs corresponding to the selected rows from saving to ENOVIA.

    Note: Error messages are not displayed incase of any error in the inclusion or exclusion of nodes in the ENOVIA Save dialog box.
    Revise All Click to revise new and modified designs from the ENOVIA Save dialog box which are revisionable, in a single go. See Revise All Designs for more details.

  5. Optional: Click Refresh to refresh the rows in the ENOVIA Save dialog box if any changes to the target revision are made.

  6. Optional: Select Show CAD Attributes to add the CAD Attributes column to the ENOVIA Save dialog box. See View Attributes of a Design.

    The CAD Attributes dialog box displays the attributes entered for the design.

  7. Click Save when done.

    Warning: An error message listing the mandatory attributes mapped by the Administrator in the global configuration object (GCO) of the designs being saved is displayed if the mandatory attributes are not set on the files or their values are Null. These mandatory attributes must be manually updated before saving the designs to ENOVIA. The error message displays the exact location to update the attribute. This message is also stored as a text file, MandAttributesError.txt, in the user profile folder.

    Note: Mandatory attributes must be defined in the GCO. "default" attributes should be defined either on file or in GCO. "null" attributes must be defined on file.

The new designs are saved in ENOVIA with the options selected for save applied.

Set Save Options

This section shows you how to set the options for Save.

  1. Click Options to open the ENOVIA Save options dialog box.



    Important: To support your business processes, your Integration Administrator may have defined some options so they cannot be changed. If the options are modified during a save operation, these parameters will return to their default setting during the next save operation. To permenantly change these settings, it must be set using the Design Central web user interface. See "Setting Global Preferences" section in ENOVIA Designer Central Installation and Administrator's Guide for details on setting these preferences using ENOVIA Designer Central. Select the options to be executed when you save selected designs to ENOVIA.

  2. The following options are available in the ENOVIA Save options dialog box:

    Option Action
    AutoName Series Select a naming series from the CAD Drawing AutoName Series drop down list. Custom autoname series created for CAD Drawing type is listed. See Saving Designs to ENOVIA.

    Note: Only new designs can be named using Autoname.
    Target Revision This column is added when you right-click and select Revise. The target revision set in ENOVIA Save Options dialog box is applied to the selected designs. You can edit this column and enter the required revision sequence.
    Background Processing Select to save designs without affecting AutoCAD operations. You can continue to use AutoCAD even when the save process is in progress.

    Note: The designs being saved are not available for modification.
    Create Version Select to create a new version of the design in ENOVIA. If not selected, the existing version of the design in ENOVIA is overwritten by the design being saved.
    Retain Lock Select to lock the design. It is recommended that you lock your designs while saving to prevent other users from modifying your designs. If not selected, the design is saved to ENOVIA in the unlocked state.
    Delete Selected Local Files Select to delete the files of the design on your local disk upon saving.

    Note: Delete Selected Local Files option cannot be selected if Background option is selected.

    Note: Note that Delete Selected Local Files and Retain Lock options cannot be selected at the same time. An error message is displayed when selected and is not allowed.
    Derived Output Click to set specific type of derived output for each particular design type for the current save session. See Set Derived Outputs.

  3. Click OK to save your selection and close the ENOVIA Save options dialog box.

Select a Workspace to Save Designs

This section shows you how to select a workspace to save designs.

  1. Click [...] in the Save To area in ENOVIA Save dialog box.

    The Select Workspace dialog box opens only if,

    • User is assigned "Exchange User" role
    • Has access to one or more workspaces
    • The workspaces are active
    • The selected workspace must have folders for which user has Read/Change access

    The Select Workspace dialog box opens.

  2. Select a workspace from the list of ENOVIA workspaces and click OK.

The selected workspace is displayed in the Save To: field in the ENOVIA Save dialog box.

Revise Designs

The Revise option is available upon right-click on new and modified designs in the ENOVIA Save dialog box. Ensure that the revision sequence is set in the ENOVIA Save Options dialog box.

  1. Right-click the selected designs and click Revise.

    A new column, Target Revision is added in the ENOVIA Save dialog box. The target revision specified in the ENOVIA Save Options dialog box is set as the revision.

    Note: You can edit the values of the revision specified under the Target Revision column.

  2. Click Refresh.

    The rows for which revisions are selected are refreshed.

Notes:

  • You can enter any existing (stored in ENOVIA) or new revision in Target Revision column.
  • It is not mandatory that the subsequent revisions specified are in sequence. For example, the specified revisions can be of the order, A, B, and F.

Revise All Designs

The Revise All option allows you to revise new and modified designs from the ENOVIA Save dialog box which are revisionable, in a single go.

  1. Right-click any design in ENOVIA Save dialog box and click Revise All.

    A new column, Target Revision is added in the ENOVIA Save dialog box for all the designs listed in ENOVIA Save dialog box. If the revision sequence is set in the ENOVIA Save Options dialog box, this revision is set as the value of the target revision in all rows. If no revision sequence is set in the ENOVIA Save Options dialog box, the default revision will be "NEXT" in sequence.

    Note: You can edit the values of the revision specified under the Target Revision column.

  2. Click Refresh.

    All rows for which target revision is specified, are refreshed. The rows can be selected if you have check in access into the specified target revision. Else, the rows cannot be selected.

Save Drawings With Blocks

During save, if there is only one drawing active in AutoCAD with the same block attribute added multiple times in this drawing, then a message asking you to select the block attribute from the available attributes to synchronize is displayed. This message appears before the Save dialog box is displayed. The selected attribute is saved to ENOVIA with the design. The value of this attribute is displayed in the CAD Attributes dialog box if the Show CAD Attributes checkbox is selected.

When 2 or more drawings are open in AutoCAD and if any of the designs have blocks with multiple attributes, then a warning message is displayed upon saving. Click Yes to save the design without the block attributes or click No to cancel save. See View Attributes of a Design.

Use Autoname

The Autoname option is available depending on the Preferences set by the Integration Administrator. Only designs with status "New" can be named using Autoname. As a prerequisite, the Autoname series must be set in the ENOVIA Save options dialog box.

  • In the ENOVIA Save dialog box, right-click designs with status "New" and click Autoname.

    Names are generated automatically for the selected designs as per the autoname series set for each type (CAD Model / CAD Drawing) in the Save Options dialog box and the auto-names are displayed under the Autoname column in ENOVIA Save dialog box.

On saving, the designs are saved with the names generated automatically.

Set Derived Outputs

You can set specific type of derived output for each particular design type for the current save session using the Save Options dialog box.

  1. Click Derived Outputs in the Save Options dialog box to open the ENOVIA Derived Output Options dialog box.

    The tabs in the ENOVIA Derived Output Options dialog box correspond to the CAD types mapped by your Administrator in the GCO.

    Warning: The Derived Output option is not displayed in the Save Options dialog box if the Administrator has not defined any mappings in the user's global configuration object.

    Note: The derived outputs options which are selected by default or are enforced in the ENOVIA Derived Output Options dialog box are read from the user's preference settings done in the web user interface, when you log in to ENOVIA using the immersive UI.

  2. Select the tab specific to the required type and select the required derived output formats in the Automatic or Manual column.

    Notes:

    • The types displayed as tabs in the ENOVIA Derived Output Options dialog box depends on the settings done by your Administrator in the GCO. All derived outputs mapped for a particular CAD type in this attribute value are displayed in the corresponding tab in the ENOVIA Derived Output Options dialog box.
    • Derived outputs set as Enforced by the administrator in the Global Preferences page cannot be modified by you in the Derived Output Options dialog box.
    • In case of custom derived outputs, only options in the Manual column can be selected. The check boxes in the Automatic column are disabled.

  3. Click OK.

    If you click Cancel after selecting derived outputs from multiple tabs, then the selections are not applied.

    Notes:

    • The selected derived outputs are valid for the current save session only.
    • The Apply to Children option from the local preferences is not applicable.

Derived outputs are created depending on the selections done and the designs along with the derived outputs are saved to ENOVIA.

View Attributes of a Design

You can view the attributes of a design from the CAD Attributes column in the ENOVIA Save dialog box. You can also view the attributes of a design using the CAD Attributes dialog box even for designs that cannot be selected in the Save dialog box.

  1. Select the Show CAD Attributes check box to add the CAD Attributes column to the ENOVIA Save dialog box.

    The CAD Attributes column is displayed even if the view is changed. The CAD Attributes column is removed from the Save dialog box only when Show CAD Attributes check box is cleared.

  2. Click Show for any design in CAD Attributes column to open the CAD Attributes dialog box.





    Note: CAD Attributes dialog box can be opened even for designs that cannot be selected in the Save dialog box.

    The CAD Attributes dialog box displays the following attributes specified for the design in the System or the Custom tab:

    • Normal Attributes: Attributes that are not mandatory are displayed.
    • Mandatory Attributes: mandatory, default, and null attributes that are mapped in the GCO by the Administrator are displayed in the System or Custom tab. If the attribute is mapped as mandatory, then the values entered in the GCO are displayed. If the attribute is mapped as default, then the value specified by you is displayed. If values are not specified by you, then the value specified in the GCO is displayed. If the attribute is mapped as null, then the value specified by you is displayed.
    Attributes that are AutoCAD specific, but are not system attributes are displayed in the Customs tab. For example, block attributes in AutoCAD.

    Notes:

    • The tabs displayed in the CAD Attributes dialog box depend on the attribute mappings. Tabs are not displayed for types that are not mapped.
    • The attributes displayed in the CAD Attributes dialog box cannot be edited.
    • An error message is displayed if the attributes are not mapped for the design.
    • Only block attributes that are synchronized while saving the design is displayed in the CAD Attributes dialog box.
    • The attributes for ENOVIA custom Type or OOTB type are displayed in the Save dialog box if some custom types are present in ENOVIA for some CAD types and are also added to the GCO by your administrator. In case a certain attribute is mapped only for OOTB type in the GCO and the object being Saved to ENOVIA is of custom type, then this particular attribute is not displayed in the Save dialog box.

  3. Click OK to close the CAD Attributes dialog box.
