Simulation Activity - Controlled Lifecycle

One or more simulation activities comprise a simulation. A simulation activity is an individual step in the process of executing a simulation. A simulation may contain none, one, or more simulation activities. This lifecycle is used for simulation activities that require a formal review process.

See also Simulation Activity Lifecycle. For more details about working with simulations, see the SIMULIA SLM User's Guide.

The Simulation Activity - Controlled lifecycle includes these states:

Proposed

The Proposed state allows a simulation activity to be created before any content or functionality is added during the In Process state.

In Process

This state represents the simulation activity while it is begin developed. A simulation activity consists of the following four stages:

  • Export. The export rule exports data to the working directory.
  • Execute. The simulation connector executes the application on the host, and the application generates additional data in the working directory. This stage produces a simulation job.
  • Import. The import rule takes data from the working directory and imports it into the results category.
  • Clean up. Files that do not need to be retained, such as log files, are removed from the working directory.

The owner has complete access to a simulation activity in the In Process state.

Review

When the simulation activity is complete, it is promoted into the Review state. Access to the activity is read-only when it is being reviewed.

The Simulation Reviewer decides whether to accept or reject the simulation or whether to demote the simulation back to the In Process state. If they accept or reject the simulation, their decision must be accompanied by a signature. Promoting the simulation to the Obsolete state does not require a signature.

Accepted

The simulation activity is ready for execution by a Simulation Analyst. A Simulation Analyst with read access can revise the simulation activity. If a controlled simulation activity is demoted from this state, all approvals made in the prior Review process are removed.

Rejected

A controlled simulation activity has read-only access and cannot be modified in the Rejected state. If a controlled simulation activity is demoted from this state, all approvals made in the prior Review process are removed.

Obsolete

The simulation activity is no longer relevant and is not expected to be executed. The owner can delete the simulation activity in the Obsolete state.
