Editing Part Family Details

Users assigned to the (Senior) Design Engineer, (Senior) Manufacturing Engineer, ECR Coordinator, ECR Evaluator, ECR Chairman, Product Obsolescence Manager and Part Family Coordinator roles can make changes to the basic details and attributes that are specific to a part family. The link can be accessed from the Part Family Properties page.


Before you begin: View the Properties page for the part family. See Part Family Properties.
  1. Click Edit Details on the page Actions menu or toolbar.



  2. Make modifications, as necessary. The following attributes can be changed:

    Field Name Description
    Name The name of the part family.
    Owner Click to select the name of the person ultimately responsible for the part family. See Searching Using the Wizard.
    Description You can add details to the part family description or replace the existing description.
    Name Generator Select On or True to enable the name generator; select Off to disable the generator. When enabled, users do not enter names for parts created within the family.
    Sequence Pattern The sequence pattern to use following the name of every part included in the part family. The format should mimic the policy sequence, and must end with three periods, for example: 001,002,003...
    Prefix Pattern Pattern that is prepended to every part included in the part family. For example, if the part family is Screws, the prefix pattern could be SCR.
    Pattern Separator Character that is used between the prefix and the part name; also between the part name and the sequence pattern.
    Base Number Starting number for the part name.
    Suffix Pattern Pattern that is appended to every part included in the part family.
    Vault To use a vault other than the default, click to specify where the part family information will be stored in the database. This field is displayed only if more than one vault is available to the context user.

  3. Click Done.
