Testing a Defect Action

When you promote a Defect Action from Open to Test, you are indicating that the work defined by the Defect Action has been completed and the Quality Assignee can test that fix.

The choices for Cause, Where Found, and Resolution may have been customized for your company; this procedure lists the default values for those lists.

If an Implementation Review has been created, you cannot promote the Defect Action to Test until the Implementation Review is promoted to Complete.

Before you begin: View the Properties page for the Defect Action. See Viewing Defect Action Details.

  1. From the page Actions menu or toolbar, click Promote to Test.

    Note: If you promote to test while the Defect Action is in the Evaluate state (skipping the Open state), you first have to connect the Defect Action to a product or model. See Opening a Defect Action.



  2. Enter these details:

    Cause. Select an option from the drop-down list:

    • Always been there
    • Bad bug fix
    • Business Reason
    • Configuration
    • Context Handling
    • Other

    Where Found. Select an option from the drop-down list:

    • Netlist
    • Hardware
    • Software
    • Other

    Fix Summary:

    Resolution. Select an option from the drop-down list:

    • Code Change.
    • Design Change.
    • Documentation Change.
    • N/A
    • Test Change
    • Workaround.
    • Waiver.

    Resolution Notes. Enter a detailed description of what was done to execute the Defect Action (what files were changed, schema updated, and so on). If a Workaround or Waiver is available, enter those details here.

    Action Assignee. You must designate an action assignee if one has not already been assigned.

    1. Click the ellipsis button for Action Assignee.

      The Search page opens listing all uses who have the Development Engineer role.

    2. If needed, enter search criteria and click Search to narrow down the list of people.
    3. Select the needed person.
    4. Click Submit.

    Quality Assignee

    1. Click the ellipsis button for Quality Assignee.

      The Search page opens listing all uses who have the Quality Engineer role.

    2. If needed, enter search criteria and click Search to narrow down the list of people.
    3. Select the needed person.
    4. Click Submit.

  3. Click Done.
