Toggling the Mandatory Setting for Configuration Features

You can make a configuration feature mandatory or not mandatory within its context object. The behavior of mandatory configuration features is slightly different within the context of a model than in other contexts.

Make a Configuration Feature Mandatory

  • Do one of the following, depending on the context object:
    • In the context of a product, product line, or product variant—In the Configuration Features page, select a configuration feature that is currently Not Man, then from the page Actions menu, select Toggle Mandatory.
    • In the context of a model—In the Candidate Configuration Features tab of the Configuration Features page, select a configuration feature, then from the page Actions menu, select Make Mandatory.

    A message confirms whether the action was successful. Click OK.

In the context of a product, product line, or product variant—Under the Usage Criteria section of the Configuration Features page, the Mandatory column shows whether the configuration feature is set to Mandatory or Not Mandatory.

In the context of a model—The configuration feature is moved from the Candidate Configuration Features tab to the Mandatory Configuration Features tab.

Mandatory configuration features are inherited by all products, product versions, and product variants that are defined under the model.

Make a Configuration Feature Not Mandatory

  • Do one of the following, depending on the context object:
    • In the context of a product, product line, product variant, or configuration feature—In the Configuration Features page, select a configuration feature, then from the page Actions menu, select Toggle Mandatory.
    • In the context of a model—In the Mandatory Configuration Features tab of the Configuration Features page, select a configuration feature, then click Remove Mandatory.

    In the context of a model:

    • If the model has an associated product, the configuration feature is moved from the Mandatory Configuration Features tab to the Committed Configuration Features tab.
    • If the model does not have an associated product, the configuration feature is moved from the Mandatory Configuration Features tab back to the Candidate Configuration Features tab.
