Importing Captures

At any point during the process of identifying and capturing requirements, you can use this procedure to begin importing the captures.

If there are no drawing objects in the capture, then the system imports rich text data directly without change. Embedded objects, such as Excel objects, are also imported without change. If the capture contains drawing objects, then the following conversions occur to those objects:

1) In-line drawing objects are converted to embedded MS Word objects and remain in the same position within the paragraph. 2) Floating drawing objects are converted to embedded MS Word objects and are grouped together at the beginning of their corresponding paragraph.

Before you begin:

Requirement Capture must be installed. For instructions, see Installing ENOVIA Requirement for Word.

To import captures, the correct web server, username, and password must be established in Settings on the Requirement Capture toolbar. Otherwise, a connection failure will result when you select Import.

The New Chapter, New Comment and New Requirement name field will only appear when an object of that type has been captured for import.

  1. On the Requirement Capture toolbar, click (Import).

    The Import Requirement Data page opens. The left column displays a tree listing of captures. The first object in the tree, New Specification, is checked by default.

  2. In the tree listing, right-click the New Specification name.

    A menu opens for selecting or deselecting All Children, All Requirements, All Chapters, and All Comments.

  3. Click Select All Children.

    A check is assigned to each object in the listing. Checked objects will be imported. A form also opens for each object type in the right column.

  4. In the Specifications form, enter the value for these fields:

    Name. Type a name for this specification. If you leave this field blank, a name will be assigned automatically.

    Type. From the drop-down list, select an option.

    Policy. From the drop-down list, select an option.

  5. In the tree listing, click the New Requirement name.

    The right column opens a Preview of the Selected New Requirement.

  6. In the Requirement form, enter the value for these fields:

    Title. The first sentence of the Requirement or first 100 characters are automatically captured as the Title of the Requirement. Enter any changes to the title.

    Type. From the drop-down list, select Requirement, User Requirement, or Customer Requirement.

    Policy. From the drop-down list, select Requirement.

    Classification. From the drop-down list, select None, Functional, Non-Functional, or Constraint.

    Difficulty. From the drop-down list, select High, Medium, or Low.

    Priority. From the drop-down list, select Pre-assigned, Medium Low High, or Urgent.

  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for every Requirement.

  8. In the tree listing, click the Comment name.

    The right column opens a Preview of the Selected Comment.

  9. In the Comment form, enter the value for these fields.

    Name. Type a name for this Comment. If you leave this field blank, a name will be assigned automatically.

    Type. From the drop-down list, select Comment.

    Policy. From the drop-down list, select Comment.

  10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for every Comment.

  11. In the tree listing, click the Chapter name.

    The right column opens a Preview of the Selected Chapter.

  12. In the Chapter form(s), enter the value for these fields.

    Name. Type a name for this Chapter. If you leave this field blank, a name will be assigned automatically.

    Type. From the drop-down list, select Chapter.

    Policy. From the drop-down list, select Chapter.

  13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 for every Chapter.

  14. In the tree listing, select the objects you want to import.

    Uncheck objects you do not want to import.

    Check objects that you want to import.

  15. Click Create to import all checked objects.

    You can import one object at a time. Check an object, edit the form and click Create.

  16. Click Close to exit.

    When captured selections are imported, the selections in the Microsoft Word document are updated with imported object information. An icon displays before each of the imported selections that represent the object type that was imported. These icons are hyperlinked so that users can directly launch the object that corresponds to the selection in MS Word in Requirements Central.

  17. If the Save and Check-in form opens, select one of the indicated options.

    Yes. Save and check-in the document. The document file is checked in with specification.

    No. Save but do not check-in the document. Does not check in the document file.

Importing Individual Captures

  1. On the Requirement Capture toolbar, click (Import).

    The Import Requirement Data page opens. If this specification has not been imported, the New Specification line will be checked in the tree listing.

  2. In the tree listing, check the capture.

    Checked capture will be imported.

  3. Click the capture name.

    This highlights the name and opens a form in the right panel.

  4. In the right panel, complete the form.

  5. Click Create to import the capture.

  6. Click Close to exit.

  7. Click Yes to save and check in the requirement specification.
