Viewing Quantity Rules

This task shows you how to view the quantity rules defined for a feature. Multiple quantity rules can be created for a feature. For example, if multiple body styles are available for a radio, multiple quantity rules can be created that define the amount of parts needed when each body style is selected. Quantity rules are only evaluated for features with the usage value As Required. You can view the quantity (the sum of all quantity rules that evaluate true) for a part in a feature when previewing the BOM. If the quantity for a part is a negative value, you need to edit the quantity rule for the feature or the quantity value for the part before the EBOM generation process. You can edit the quantity value for a part when previewing the BOM.

Before you begin: Access the Properties page of a feature.
  1. From the Categories menu, click Quantity Rulest.

    The Quantity Rules page opens.

    It contains the following columns:

Name. Name of the rule. This column contains highlighted links. Click on any name in this column to view the Properties page for that rule.

Usage Quantity. The value for the usage amount. This number indicates the amount to increase the quantity dependent on the rule.

Rule Expression. The rule expression for the rule.

State. The current state of the rule in its lifecycle.

Status. Either Active or Inactive. Specifies the availability of the rule for the BOM generation process.

Responsible Organization. The organization or project that has design responsibility for the rule.

Owner. The person who is responsible for the rule. By default the person who creates the rule is the owner.

Edit. Click to edit the quantity rule. The Edit Quantity Rule page opens, where you can update and make changes to the pre-loaded values found in the database. For details, see Creating a Quantity Rule.

  2. Use any of the following commands from the page Actions menu or page toolbar to work with the rules:

    • Create. Creates a new quantity rule for the feature in context. For details, see Creating a Quantity Rule.
    • Add Existing. Adds an existing quantity rule to the feature in context. The Search page opens. For details, see Running a Search.
    • Copy. You can copy and modify a rule from one object to another object. For details, see Copying Quantity Rules.
    • Inactive. Makes checked rules inactive. Inactive rules are not available for the BOM generation processes.
    • Active. Makes checked rules active. Active rules are available for the BOM generation processes.
    • Remove. Removes checked rules from the feature in context. It does not delete the rule from the database.
    • Delete. Deletes all checked rules from the list, disconnects the relationship between the checked rules and the parent item, and then deletes the rules from the database. You are prompted to verify the deletion. Click OK.
