Creating a Manufacturing Feature

Manufacturing features can be created within the context of a model, a product, a logical feature, or another manufacturing feature. They can also be created ad-hoc and added to a parent object at a later time.

Manufacturing Features Page under a Product
  1. To create a manufacturing feature, do one of the following:

    • From the global My Enovia menu, under Variant Configuration > Logical Structures, click Manufacturing Features, then from the Manufacturing Features page Actions menu, click Create Manufacturing Feature. This creates a stand-alone manufacturing feature that can be reused across multiple contexts using the Add Existing option.
    • From the global toolbar Actions menu , under Variant Configuration, click Create Manufacturing Feature. This opens a popup dialog. This creates a stand-alone manufacturing feature that can be reused across multiple contexts using the Add Existing option.
    • Click Create Manufacturing Feature from the page Actions menu on the Features page opened from any of the following locations:
      Properties page Categories menu option
      Model Manufacturing View from the Categories menu. A manufacturing feature created within the context of a model becomes a candidate manufacturing feature.
      Product Logical Structures from the Categories menu, then select the Manufacturing View tab.

      Note: Click Enable Edit and select a product to enable the Create Manufacturing Feature option on the Actions menu.

      A manufacturing feature created within the context of a product is automatically connected to the selected product.

      Logical Feature Logical Structures from the Categories menu, then select the Manufacturing View tab.

      Note: Click Enable Edit and select a logical feature to enable the Create Manufacturing Feature option on the Actions menu.

      A manufacturing feature created within the context of a logical feature becomes a subfeature for detailed definition.

      Note: Click Enable Edit and select a manufacturing feature to enable the Create Manufacturing Feature option on the Actions menu.

      A manufacturing feature created within the context of another manufacturing feature becomes a subfeature for detailed definition.

    • If you are using the ENOVIA Semiconductor Accelerator for Design to Manufacture, from the global toolbar Actions menu, click IC Design to Manufacture > Create Manufacturing Feature.

    In all cases except from the global Actions menu, a Create Manufacturing Feature slide-in window opens on the right side of the screen. In the case of the global Actions menu, a popup window opens.

  2. Enter details about the manufacturing feature. The attributes that are required or available depend on the context from which the Create New Manufacturing Feature dialog was accessed.

    Name. Type the name of the manufacturing feature. In general, features are named using a short descriptive string or check Autoname for the system to assign a name automatically. This field is required.

    Type. Type in, or click to select, the type or subtype of the manufacturing feature being created. The default is Manufacturing Feature . This field is required.

    Revision. Type the revision number or code. The default value is based on the policy definition. This field is required.

    Description. Type details that describe the feature.

    Display Name. Type the title of the manufacturing feature. Special characters are supported. This field is required.

    Owner. Type in, or click to select, the owner of the manufacturing feature. Defaults to the user who is creating the manufacturing feature. If there is only one user in the database, this field is locked.

    Design Responsibility. Type in, or click to assign, the Responsible Design Organization (RDO), the organization or project with design responsibility for the manuafacturing feature. By default, if a manufacturing feature is created within the context of a model, product, logical feature, or another manufacturing feature, this field is populated with the design responsibility of the context object.     Design responsibility must be assigned before the manufacturing feature reaches the Review state. Once a manufacturing feature has been assigned a design responsibility, all new revisions carry the same.

    Part Family. Type in, or click to select, the part family associated with the manufacturing feature.

    Policy. Click to select from a dropdown list the policy that controls the feature.

    Vault. If you want to use a vault other than the default, type in, or click to select, a different vault to specify where the manufacturing feature information will be stored in the database. For details, see the Application Exchange Framework Help.

  3. Click Done to save the new manufacturing feature.

    Click Cancel if you wish to cancel any changes made and close the page.

    If you chose Done, the Create Manufacturing Feature page is refreshed to reflect the newly created object. If any mandatory field is not filled, a validation alert message is displayed and the cursor is placed inside the relevant field, allowing you to udpate the required information.
