Assigning Design Responsibility

During the definition of a new product line, product, model, build, feature, or requirement, you can select an organization or project as the design responsibility for that object. All objects use the Design Responsibility attribute. If the policy of the object states that Product Managers should have create, modify, delete, connect and disconnect access in the Create and Review states, then only those Product Managers who belong to the responsible design organization will have those accesses in the Create and Review states.

For example, a Company called Car Co. has several employees with the role Product Manager: Tom, Jessica, and John.

The Product "Car 2011" has been assigned to the Engineering Engine department. The Engineering Engine department has design responsibility for Car 2011. This means only the Product Managers assigned to this department have access to Car 2011. All other users with the Product Manager role who do not belong to this department do not have access to this product. They default to whatever access Global User or Employee has.

The design responsibility ties users and their roles to the policy of the related object. If Product Managers and System Engineers have modify access, then only those users with roles that belong to the responsible design organization have modify access.
