Viewing and Editing File Properties from Windows Explorer

In the local vault view in Windows Explorer, you can view the properties of a file and edit the properties if you have the file checked out.

Note: You can also view and edit a file's data card from Windows Explorer by selecting the file and clicking the Properties tab at the bottom of the right pane or from within SolidWorks by clicking ENOVIA > Show Card.


Before you begin:

To be able to modify editable properties, check out the file before you view it.

  1. In the local vault view in Windows Explorer, right-click a file and click Properties.

  2. In the Properties dialog box, click a tab and update fields as necessary.

    • General - Contains read-only information such as the size and version number of the file.
    • File Data Card - Contains information specific to the file type (file extension).

      If there are multiple configurations, select the configuration to view or edit.

      Read-only fields are greyed out. All other fields can be edited.

    • Custom - Available for files only.

      If the file whose properties you are viewing has Custom properties defined in SolidWorks, they appear on the Custom tab.

      If you check the file out, you can add or remove custom properties and modify existing property values.

  3. Click OK.
