Reassigning (Delegating) a Task to Someone Else

If you are assigned a task and the route owner has indicated that you can delegate the task, you can reassign the task to another person or group. The route owner can reassign any active task regardless of the setting for Allow Delegation.

When you reassign a task to someone, that person becomes the new task assignee and is now the only person who can complete the task. If you reassign the task to a group, someone in the group needs to accept the task, then that person is the only one who can complete the task. The assignee inherits all the accesses that you have for the route and its content and receives notifications sent by the system regarding the task. However, these access are only temporary and are removed when the route is completed. The original assignee's access to the route and content remains and the list of members for the route continues to list the original assignee and not the delegate.

If you reassign a task for which you have created sub-routes, you remain the owner of the sub-routes. The new task assignee cannot complete the task until your sub-routes are complete. You cannot delegate workflow tasks.

Before you begin:
  1. On the Properties page, click Change Assignee in the page toolbar.

The Due Date only shows if the task allows the assignee to set the due date. Change the date if needed.

  2. Choose to reassign the task to a Person or Group. You can assign it to another person or group, but not a role.

  3. Click the New Assignee .

If you selected Person, see Searching Using the Consolidated Search Form to find and select the needed person.

If you selected Group, see Select List Page.

  4. Enter any needed comments. These comments will be sent to the new assignee and route owner when you click Done.

  5. Click Done.
