Library Classes and Subclasses Lists

People with the Librarian or Library User roles can list classified items by navigating the hierarchy from the library level, or from the class level in general classes by using the search menu to find general classes.

You can list classes (and subclasses) in a general library and document families (and sub document families) in a document library. For lists of part families, see Part Families List.

To access this page:


  1. From the global toolbar, click > Library > Libraries.

    Or:

    From the global toolbar, click > IP Management > Libraries.

  2. Click the Name of a general or document library. The classes or document families list opens for that library.

Columns for Classes and Document Families



To view subclasses for a general library, click Categories > Subclasses.

To view sub document families for a document library, click Categories > Sub Document Families.

Column Name Description
Name Name of the class or document family. Click to view the list of items in the class, or documents in the document family.
Type The type or subtype of the class: General Class or Document Family.
Description Details about the class.
State The current state of the class or document family in its lifecycle.


Opens the list of items in the class in a new window.
Classification Path List of the class hierarchy. Click any name to view the contents of that class.

Create New Creates a new class. Creating New General Class Objects
Add Existing Locates a class to add it to this library. Only classes not connected to other classes can be added to this class. Searching in Navigation Mode
Search Within Locates an object stored within the selected class. Searching Within a Library or Folder
Move Moves the selected classes to another library or class. Searching in Navigation Mode
Remove Removes the selected classes from this library or class; click OK to confirm. --
Delete Deletes the selected classes from the database; click OK to confirm. --
Subscribe Subscribes to events for the class or document family. Subscription Events for Libraries and Classes
