Editing a CTQ

If you are a project owner or Project Lead, and if the CTQ is not in the Controlled state, you can edit the non-metric values for it, such as the problem statement and goal. The data type (discrete or continuous) cannot be changed. If you want to edit a controlled Quality, you'll have to demote it first.

To edit the metric values for a CTQ, see Editing a Metric.

Before you begin: List the CTQs for a project. See Listing CTQs for a Project or View the Properties page for the quality. See Viewing Information about a CTQ.
  1. In the list of qualities, click for the quality that you want to edit.

    Or

On the quality's Properties page, click Edit Details in the page toolbar.

  2. Edit any of these fields as needed:

Policy. The policy that governs the CTQ (there may be only 1 listed).

Problem Statement. An explanation of the problem, when it occurs, where it occurs, and its extent.

Operational Definition. A clear understandable description of what's to be observed and measured, so different people will be able to interpret the data. This includes what are you trying to measure, what the measurement is not, a basic definition of the measure, and how to take the measure in detail.

Defect Definition. What counts as a defect.

Goal. The goal or target for resolving the defect.

Opportunity. An opportunity is anything that you inspect, measure, or test on a unit that provides a chance of allowing a defect.

Out of Bounds. The measurements that would be outside of the spec limits.

Constraints. Any limits or restrictions placed on the measurement.

Comments. Any comments pertaining to the Quality.
