Creating a Manufacturing Plan

A manufacturing plan can be created by either creating a new manufacturing plan or cloning an existing plan. Manufacturing plans are created in the context of a logical feature or product. Manufacturing plans are created in the same way for logical features and products. The only difference is plans created for products will also include the manufacturing plan breakdown definition.

Before you begin: Access the Manufacturing Plans page for a logical feature or product. For details, see Viewing Manufacturing Plans.

  1. To create a manufacturing plan, do one of the following:

    • To create a new manufacturing plan, click Create Manufacturing Plan from the page Actions menu or toolbar.

Note: Only logical features that have a master feature can be seen in the breakdown page. In the case of a Hardware Product, a Model is automatically created when the Product is created. However, in the case of a logical feature, the master feature is not created automatically. When a Manufacturing Plan is created for a logical feature, only then is a master feature created for that logical feature.

    • To clone an existing manufacturing plan, you can choose either to select a plan in the page or not to select anything and click Create Manufacturing Plan From from the page Actions menu or toolbar.

If you selected a high-level plan before clicking the command, the Create Manufacturing Plan page will be populated with that plan's values. If you selected a low-level plan or nothing at all, the Search opens with the list of manufacturing plans available for cloning. The list of available plans will include all the existing plans defined for each of the revisions of the context logical feature or product. For example, if a manufacturing plan is cloned for Engine Rev 2, then the list of available plans will include all plans defined for the revisions of Engine.

Select a plan and click Submit. For details on using the Search page, see "Running a Search" in the Variant Configuration Central User's Guide.

The Create Manufacturing Plan page opens.

  2. Enter details about the manufacturing plan, including the following:

Note: If you are cloning an existing plan, its values will be populated in the page and available for editing.

Name. Type the name of the new manufacturing plan or check Autoname for the system to assign a name automatically to this plan.

Type. Click to select the type of plan you want to create. By default, the type is Manufacturing Plan. The type chooser can be used if your company has configured sub-types.

Manufacturing Intent. The default Manufacturing Intent is Regular. If you want to change it, click the drop-down list and select Retrofit.

Title. Type a descriptive title for the plan. Manufacturing plans are shown in the Manufacturing Plan Matrix page with their titles.

Planned For. By default, this is a read-only field that shows the context in which the plan is being created.

Description. Type details that describe the plan.

Owner. Click to assign an owner. By default, the person who creates a manufacturing plan is its owner.

Policy. By default, this is a read-only field that shows the policy that controls the plan. The drop-down list can be used if more than one policy has been configured for the type.

Vault. Click to specify where the plan will be stored in the database. This field is displayed only if more than one vault is available to you.

  3. Click Done.

If the new manufacturing plan was cloned from an existing plan, it will be connected to that plan with the "Derived From" relationship. If the new plan was cloned in the context of a product, it will contain the same default sub-manufacturing plans for each master feature defined for the associated model.
