Listing Risks

Anyone who can view a project can get a list of the risks associated with it and its WBS tasks. You can view risks that are assigned to you, risks for a project, or risks for a specific task. There are many ways to access risks. The most efficient way to access a risk depends on whether it is assigned to you, whether it is for a WBS task assigned to you, and whether you are a member of the project the risk is for. In addition, you can search for risks (see Searching for Risks).

  1. To list risks:

    For a project:

    1. View the project Dashboard page. See Working With Dashboards.
    2. Click the Risks tab or category from the project PowerView.

For a specific task in the project:

    1. View the project Dashboard page. See Working With Dashboards.
    2. Click the task's Name in the WBS.
    3. From the task's Categories menu, click Risks.

    All your risks across projects:

From the global toolbar, click > Program > Risks,.

    Or

    1. Click Tools > PowerView.
    2. Click the Risks tab or category.

For a WBS task assigned to you:

    1. From the global toolbar, click > Program > WBS Tasks.
    2. Click the Name of the task.
    3. Click the Risks category.

If the Risks page is at the project level, the page includes all risks assigned to individual tasks.

For each risk, the page lists these details:

[Project Status]. The status icons indicate the level of risk.

Name. The name of the risk, assigned automatically by the system. See Viewing Information about a Risk.

Title. A short, descriptive title of the risk.

Status. Shows the risk's current state, which can be:

      • Create. The risk has just been created but no actual start date is assigned. This is the only state during which the risk can be deleted. After the owner enters the basic information and assigns people to the risk, the owner should promote the task to Assign, which is an indication to assignees that they can begin working on the risk.
      • Assign. The assignees should begin working on the risk by promoting it to Active, which populates the actual start date with the current date, or by entering an actual start date, which automatically promotes the risk to Active.
      • Active. The assignee is working on the risk.
      • Review. The risk is ready to be reviewed by other project or company personnel. Assignees should route the risk for review. When such as route is completed, the system automatically promotes the risk to Complete. Alternatively, the owner or assignee can manually promote the risk to Complete or enter an actual finish date, which promotes the risk.
      • Complete. The risk has been reviewed and is complete. When a risk is promoted to Complete, the system enters the current date as the actual finish date (entering the date may have triggered the promotion).

RPN. The most recent Risk Priority Number (RPN) entered for the risk. The system calculates this value by multiplying the Probability value by the Impact value. The RPN can range from 1 to 25, with 1 being the lowest priority.

Slip Days. Shows the number of days that have past since the estimated completion date. If the estimated finish date has not yet arrived, the number is 0.

Est Start. The date the owner estimates the risk assignee will begin to resolve the issue.

Estimated Finish Date. The date the owner estimates the risk assignee will finish the resolution.

Act Start. The date an assignee begins work on the risk. The system fills in the current date automatically when the owner or assignee promotes the risk to Active. Alternatively, the owner or an assignee can manually enter or edit the date.

Act Finish. The date the assignee completes the risk. The system fills in the current date automatically when the owner or assignee promotes the risk to Complete. Alternatively, the owner or assignee can manually enter or edit the date.

Assign To. The people assigned to resolve the risk. To see all assignees, click the arrow on the drop-down list.

Affected Items. What the risk affects, for example, a project.

. Edits the risk. Only users with specific access can edit risks. See Editing Basic Information for a Risk.

. Opens the Basic Information page of the risk in a new window.

  2. To filter the list of risks, select an option from the drop-down list at the top, right:

Active. Risks in any state except Complete.

Complete. Only those risks in the Complete lifecycle state.

    All. All risks.

  3. Use the page Actions menu or toolbar to work with the risks:

Create New. Creates a new risk. See Creating Risks.

Import. Creates a new risk by importing information from a csv file. See Creating Risks by Importing from a CSV File.

Edit Risks. Edits the estimated and actual start and finish dates for one or more risks. See Entering Dates for Risks.

    Delete. Deletes the selected risk.

Assign Selected. Assigns risks to people. See Assigning Risks.
