Viewing Defect Details

The Properties page of a Defect lists all the details that have been entered for the Defect, and gives you access to the category list.


Before you begin: Follow one of these procedures to find the needed Defect:
  1. Click the name of the Defect.


    Defect Properties

    Note: The tool exports all fields on the Properties page except the Notes field because of its potential size.

    This page lists these details:

    Basics


    • Name. Unique identifier for the Defect, usually an autoname such as DFT003042.
    • Originated. The date the Defect was created.
    • Title. A brief description of the Defect.
    • State. Shows the states the Defect must go through to be resolved, with the current state highlighted in yellow:
      • Submit. You still need to gather additional details for the defect, but you want to enter the information you currently have.
      • Evaluate. You have entered all the needed details and the Defect is ready for assessment.
      • Open. The Defect is being worked on and there are one or more Defect Actions associated with the Defect.
      • Closed. All Defect Actions associated with the Defect have been completed and the Defect is considered resolved.
      • Rejected. The Change Board determined that the problem is not considered a Defect.
    • Reported Against Product. The Product that the Defect affects. Click the name to view the Product's Properties page.
    • Introduced In.The revision of Product where the defect was first found. Click the name to view the Properties page for that Product revision.
    • When Found. The state in the development process when the defect was discovered:
      • N/A
      • Development
      • First Pass Test
      • Second Pass Test
      • Final Qualification
      • After Release
    • Type. The ENOVIA object type (Defect).
    • Policy. Shows the policy that governs the Defect's lifecycle.
    • Reason for Rejection. Only shows if the Defect is in the rejected state. Lists the reason the Defect was not accepted.
    • Reason for Demotion. Only shows if the Defect was demoted from one state in its lifecycle to an earlier state. If the Defect is subsequently promoted, the field is removed from the Properties page.

    Ownership


    • Change Responsibility. The organization responsible for resolving the Defect. Click to view the Properties page for the organization.
    • Reporting Organization. The organization associated with the person who reported the Defect. Click to view the Properties page for the organization.
    • Originator. The person who reported the Defect.
    • Owner. The Development Manager of the Product against which the Defect was reported.

    Details


    • Severity. How severe the defect is, where S0 is a showstopper and S3 is the lease severe.
    • Priority.The priority for fixing this defect, where P0 means the highest priority and P3 is the lowest priority.
    • Description. A detailed description of the defect.
    • Steps to Reproduce. A step-by-step procedure showing exactly how to reproduce the defect.
    • Environment. The environment (client and server operating systems, browsers, and so on) where the defect occurred. Click the name to view the Environment's properties page. See Viewing Environment Details.

    Summary


    • Regression. Yes or No.
    • Regression From. If Regression is Yes, indicates in which version the feature worked.
    • Regression Details. Detailed description about the regression.
    • Notes. Discussion notes about the Defect. Click the Attachments. Link to attach a document, or access a document someone else attached to the Defect. See Documents and Content.
    • Subscribers. The list of people who will be notified whenever a change is made to this Defect.
    • Keywords. A list of terms relevant to the Defect that people can use when searching for defects.

    Defect Actions. A list of Defect Actions created for this Defect. See Managing Defect Actions.

    Related Defects. A list of Defects that are related to this Defect. See Managing Defects.

    Also Reported Against. A list of objects that this Defect affects in addition to the Product it was originally reported against. See Listing the Items a Defect is Reported Against.

    Issues Addressed. A list of Issues that are addressed by this Defect. See Managing Issues Addressed.

  2. Use the page Actions menu to work with the Defect:

    • Edit Details. Edits the Defect details. See Editing a Defect's Details.
    • Create Defect Action. Only shows when the Defect is in the Open state. Creates a Defect Action that will define work to resolve the Defect. See Creating a Defect Action.
    • Mark as Duplicate. Opens a search page where you select another Defect to indicate that this Defect duplicates that existing Defect. See Searching for Defects. After selecting the duplicate, this Defect is promoted to the Rejected state and "Duplicate" is entered for the Reason for Rejection. This Defect is listed in the Duplicate Defects category for the selected Defect.
    • Add Related Defect. Opens a search page where you select another Defect that is different from this one, but related to it. See Searching for Defects. Each Defect is listed on the other Defect's Related Defects category.
    • Add Issue Addressed. Opens a search page where you select an Issue that this Defect deals with. The selected Issue is listed in the Issues Addressed category.
    • Add Reported Against. Opens a search page where you select Products in addition to the Reported Against Product that this Defect affects. The selected objects are listed in the Reported Against category.
    • Subscribe. Subscribes to notifications to the Defect. See Subscription Events for Defects and Defect Actions.

  3. Use the page toolbar to promote or demote the Defect (only those actions applicable in the current state show on the toolbar):

    • Demote to Submit. If the Defect is in the Evaluate, Open, Closed, or Rejected state, demotes the Defect to the Submit state. See Demoting a Defect to Evaluate or Submit.
    • Promote to Evaluate Only shows if the Defect is in the Submit state. Promotes to the Evaluate state.
    • Demote to Evaluate. If the Defect is in the Open, Closed, or Rejected state, demotes the Defect to the Evaluate state. If the Defect had been rejected, you need to provide a reason for demoting it. See Demoting a Defect to Evaluate or Submit.
    • Promote to Open.Only shows in the Evaluate state. Promotes the Defect to the Open state. See Opening a Defect.
    • Demote to Open. If a Defect is in the Closed or Rejected states, reopens the Defect. See Reopening a Defect.
    • Promote to Rejected. Shows in the Evaluate or Open state. If in the Open state and all of the Defect Actions are in the Evaluate state, promotes the Defect to the Rejected state. See Rejecting a Defect. If any Defect Action is in Open, Test, or Closed states, you cannot reject the Defect. If you need to do so, reject all remaining Defect Actions (see Rejecting a Defect Action) to automatically promote the Defect to the Rejected state.
